The Colorado Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CoAND) is a not for profit organization that represents registered Naturopathic Doctors in the state of Colorado. A Naturopathic Doctor is a doctor who has graduated from 1 of 7 schools in the U.S. and Canada, and maintains a license or registration in one of the states that currently regulates Naturopathic Doctors. Following is a summary of the presentations at the 2019 conference.
Dr. Denise Clark
Dr. Denise Clark discussed creating successful step-wise plans to diagnose and treat patients suffering from complicated, multi-systemic illness. She touched upon chronic, persistent Lyme disease, mycotoxin Illness, mast cell Activation syndrome, and other lesser known causes of chronic illness.
Before graduating from Bastyr University, Dr. Clark had a distinguished twenty year career with the U.S. EPA where she received awards for championing environmental programs and initiatives in several states. After struggling for years, Dr. Clark was diagnosed with CFS which encouraged her to strive for optimal health through more natural means. Dr. Clark received the 2013 “Doctor of the Year” award from the AANP.
Dr. Marisol Teijeiro
Naturopathic medicine engages the healing power of nature, and nothing is more natural than a bowel movement. It can direct the clinician and the patient as to their present state of health. Dr. Marisol Teijeiro taught characteristics that serve as a “diagnostic” tool to elucidate issues within the gut microbioate, deficiencies of important vitamins, minerals and factors required for digestion and problems within regulatory systems such as the nervous, immune and endocrine systems.
Dr. Teijeiro ND, BA is an author, speaker, and director of Sanas Health Practice in Ontario, Canada, and is certified in Environmental Medicine and Homotoxicology. She has spoken internationally at the Environmental Health Symposium, the International Colon Hydrotherapy Association, and the International Congress of Naturopathic Medicine.
Steve Rissman ND
In this presentation, Dr. Rissman discussed the effects of masculine norms on communication between providers and patients. Given that approximately 75% of patients of naturopathic medical visits are female, he discussed about how well the health needs of men and boys are being addressed. Naturopathic doctors are educated to address the whole patient but what about the whole community? He encouraged discussion on the challenges of working with men and boys.
Mary Rondeau ND, RH (AHG)
Attention and focus issues plague adults and children alike. According to the CDC, approximately ten percent of children have been diagnosed with ADHD by the age of seventeen. Sixty percent of the children diagnosed go on to have attention and focus issues as adults A thorough history intake, laboratory assessment, including quantitative EEG analysis, sleep assessment and social history are important in determining proper and effective treatments for attention and focus issues. A multi- modality approach can be effective to manage this often difficult to treat condition.
