“Immunotherapy: The Battle Within” is a documentary film about the past, present, and future of cancer immunotherapy, a treatment that provokes your body's immune system into attacking cancer cells.

This film shows how the first cancer immunotherapy treatment was invented by William B. Coley, MD in the 1890s. Dr. Coley, while working at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, had hundreds of documented cures of people with 'incurable' cancer in the early part of the 20th century. This film looks closely at why Coley's treatment ended up being banned, and how cancer immunotherapy treatment and research disappeared for over 100 years.

Fast forward to 2018, James P. Allison, PhD, a research scientist at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, wins the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his development of the world's first immune checkpoint inhibitor, which is a type of cancer immunotherapy!
